In February 1990, months after the fall of theĀ Berlin Wall, the draw for theĀ 1992 European Championship qualifying tournamentĀ sawĀ East GermanyĀ and West Germany drawn together. After West Germany's 1990 World Cup win, assistantĀ Berti VogtsĀ took over as the national team coach from the retiring Beckenbauer.
The members of the East German associationĀ Deutscher FuĆball-VerbandĀ acceded to the DFB in November, while the 1990ā91 seasons would continue, with the restructuring of leagues scheduled for 1991ā92. The first game with a unified German team was againstĀ SwedenĀ on 10 October.
InĀ Euro 1992, Germany reached the final, but lost 0ā2 toĀ Denmark.Ā In theĀ 1994 World Cup, they were upset 1ā2 in the quarterfinals by Bulgaria.
