On November 15, 2019,Ā Grupo OmnilifeĀ and club owner Jorge Vergara died at the age of 64 of cardiac arrest. His son,Ā Amaury Vergara, inherited the presidency of the club.
On November 26, Amaury Vergara officially presentedĀ Ricardo PelĆ”ezĀ as the club's new sporting director andĀ Luis Fernando TenaĀ as the new manager.
Tena was let go on August 9 after going the first three matches of theĀ Guardianes 2020 tournamentĀ scoreless, losing twice. Four days later,Ā VĆctor Manuel VucetichĀ was appointed as the new manager. Following a seventh place general table finish, they made it to theĀ Guardianes 2020 semi-finals, losing 2ā1 to eventual league winnersĀ LeĆ³n. In the Guardianes 2021, Chivas would end up getting knocked out in the reclassification round 4ā2 toĀ Pachuca.
