Turkey were drawn inĀ Group AĀ inĀ qualificationĀ forĀ UEFA Euro 2016, together withĀ Iceland,Ā Latvia,Ā Kazakhstan, theĀ Netherlands, and theĀ Czech Republic. The Turkish team qualified for their first major tournament in eight years as the best third-placed team after beating Iceland 1ā0, withĀ SelƧuk Ä°nanĀ netting a free kick in the 89th minute.
After over 18 months being unbeaten, a loss toĀ England as a pre-tournament friendly ended the team's winning streak, subsequently leading to back-to-back losses againstĀ CroatiaĀ andĀ SpainĀ in the tournament. Turkey won their last game against the Czech Republic by a scoreline of 2ā0, but this victory was not enough to reach the knockout phase.
